Values

Our organisational values are designed to help everyone who works with us to achieve our goal: a world where we are all equal created in collaboration with children and girls in over 80 countries.

  • We are open and accountable

We create a climate of trust inside and outside the organisation by being open, honest and transparent. We hold ourselves and others to account for the decisions we make and for our impact on others, while doing what we say we will do.

  • We strive for lasting impact

We strive to achieve significant and lasting impact on the lives of children and young people, and to secure equality for girls. We challenge ourselves to be bold, courageous, responsive, focused and innovative.

  • We are inclusive and empowering

We respect all people, appreciate differences and challenge inequality in our programmes and our workplace. We support children, girls and young people to increase their confidence and to change their own lives. We empower our staff to give their best and develop their potential.

  • We work well together

We succeed by working effectively with others, inside and outside the organisation, including our sponsors and donors. We actively support our colleagues, helping them to achieve their goals. We come together to create and implement solutions in our teams, across Plan International, with children, girls, young people, communities and our partners.

  • Values-based leadership, people and culture

Our shared values and behaviours are our guiding principles for how we work and interact with others. They help to foster a culture of openness, accountability and transparency which allows innovation, experimentation and continuous learning.

Our values are at the heart of everything we do. Only by defining a common set of values that are important to us – and that we also want to see in our partners – can we deliver on our shared aspirations. If we are to work towards fulfilling our new purpose, it is critical that we understand the behaviours we have to demonstrate to get us there.

Our History & Heritage

In 1994, the international humanitarian and development organization Plan International, which currently operates in over 80 countries around the world, began its journey in Bangladesh. Over the next three decades, Plan International Bangladesh achieved tremendous success through its commitment to children, youth, girls, and marginalized communities. From receiving an award from the Prime Minister for its pioneering project on Exclusive Breastfeeding to contributing to the establishment of 100% birth registration areas, Plan International Bangladesh has tirelessly worked with marginalized communities—particularly children, girls, and young women—to nurture their potential, uphold their rights, protect them from harm, and develop them into the leaders of the future.

Over the last ten years, through meaningful collaboration with the government, coalitions, delegates, donors, and partner organizations, Plan Bangladesh has remained steadfast in advocating for girls’ rights and welfare while advancing the eradication of child marriage. Plan Bangladesh’s pursuit of youth and female empowerment is perhaps best showcased through its flagship Sponsorship Programme, where 30,000 young children are sponsored, over 50% of whom are girls.

Over time, the organization has expanded its efforts to address natural disasters and climate crises. With over 40 project areas, Plan’s endeavors have yielded countless stories of transformation, each deserving of acknowledgment and celebration across the nation.

Despite these efforts, inequalities, violence, and exploitation persist. Children, especially girls, young women, and women, continue to face discrimination regarding their rights. With the lessons learned and the foundation built over 30 years, Plan Bangladesh is more resolute than ever in its fight against gender norms and insensitivity. Throughout its interventions over the last three decades, Plan International Bangladesh has consistently reviewed and reshaped its strategic plan and program approach to evolve its interventions in a way that makes them timeless and enduring. Plan International Bangladesh will continue its commitment, efforts, and investments in quality education, youth leadership and skills, economic empowerment, sexual and reproductive health, climate change, and gender equality.
